Whakarongo School is a dynamic and future focused full primary school (550 students from Year 1-8), situated on the north eastern edge of Palmerston North, New Zealand, in a rural setting amongst trees and landscaped grounds.

Everything at our school is about the "Whakarongo Kid." The Whakarongo Kid encapsulates our vision for our students and consists of four dimensions: Navigator, Innovator, Connector and Collaborator.  Each student aims to be the best "Whakarongo Kid" possible.

Whakarongo School is a leading school in using collaborative teaching within flexible learning environments.  Our school is divided into PODs and teachers work as small teams in each POD.  We have found this to be very effective in the teaching and learning process (read more).

From 2017 we have been busy developing a comprehensive STEM Education programme for our school.  This is a very exciting development that will engage our students though hands-on learning and help prepare them for the future (read more).

In 2021 Whakarongo was a finalist in the Prime Minister's Excellence in Education Awards. The judges felt the school was very future-focussed, reflective, investigative and a growing learner agency – they were happy to see the stem and digital curriculum.
